'computer Science' Or 'computer Games Programming' For A Degree?
Hi all, i am eager to become a games programmer and currently i study maths as one of my chosen subjects in higher education. what i 'm quite puzzled about is which degree i should take to follow my route.i compared both courses and to me, in some universities, the first year of both courses seem to be outlined in the same style. in fact the course outline for year 1 is exactly the same for both degrees. however, it seems that the computer science degrees are more orientated towards other businesses, rather than the ones in the games industry. i want to do a masters in computer games programming, but i am still unsure as to whether choosing a computer science degree or a computer games programming degree would help me get into the placement i want to be in.what are your thoughts? should i do computer science, or computer games programming for a degree? computer games programming degrees seem to be more orientated towards artificial intelligence, software engineering and that seems to be a good path to become a games programmer, but i 'm still unsure! i hope you can answer this, thanks. :-)bob m: you are not answering my questions, but simply outlining the course for which i am aware of. i simply want to know which course do companies value more: computer science degree or a computer games programming degree? This is sort of a continuation of the virus removal question - the aftermath, i guess you could say. before then, all of my computer games worked fine. one game is heavily based on how close you are to the server or how powerful your internet connection is. i get a delay for everything i do on it now. not to mention the mouse cursor moves really slowly and lags along. my internet browser works just fine too.i added the game to my list of programs able to get passed mcafee 's firewall and i added it to windows firewall, but to no avail. What Video Card Should I Buy? - Newer Computer Games?
I 'm looking to upgrade my computer to handle games such as skyrim and star wars: the old republic, but i know woefully little about computer hardware, specs, and pretty much anything else besides how to plug the thing in.i started out with a pc from cyberpower, which is a quad-core something like 8 g of ram and a nvidia geforce 9500 video card, but it wasn 't able to keep up with the more modern games. a friend of mine has nearly exactly the same setup, and, being a lot more competent at computers than i am, recommended an older card that he claims works wonders for him. he gets an average of 70+ fps on skyrim and swtor on max settings, while my 9500 had no more than 20 on swtor and even stuttered on low settings for skyrim. the card he recommended was a nvidia geforce 520.frankly, it didn 't work. i installed drivers, troubleshoot programs where ever i could, and tried everything to match my system to mirror his, but it simply won 't mirror his results. i 've gotten no more than 30-40 fps on swtor, which is an improvement, but far from ideal, and on skyrim, while it says medium is the ideal settings for my system, medium is near unplayable from fps issues.i wanted to know what video card fellow gamers, or anyone knowledgeable about it, really, would recommend. i don 't have a huge budget, so anything under $150 would be preferable, and around $100 would be ideal. i understand that it probably limits the improvements to lower than i like, but you gotta make due with what you can.any cards that are slightly above that would also be considered, and i 'd appreciate any help. i 'd hate to spend money on another card that ends up not solving my issue.p.s. - while the video card is out of date, and i don 't know much about computer specs, i did have my system compared to the recommended for both games and excelled at every category besides the video card, so that 's why i didn 't mention that.as i said, i 'm not too competent with computers, so if you could advise me on where to find the information that you want, i 'd be happy to give it.-------the power supply is 430 watts.--------if i wanted to upgrade my power supply to suit the 6850, is there a certain one i should be looking for? is there any other issues that i 'd probably blow up my room discovering? thanks for the help!
